Oda's tonfa attacks are powerful enough to break through Kiryu's defenses, so Tips won't protect you fully.
Hold down Tips, then move towards the side from where Kiryu is facing and press Tips to circle around behind the enemy. Alternatively, use weapons such as sofas or chairs with the Beast style to launch an all-out assault, or find a style that works for you.
